Pre-Berrien Schools

Of course, basketball existed in the county before Berrien High was created in 1954. Basketball was introduced to the county no later than the 1916-17 school term. References have been made to this being Nashville's first ever girls team, so almost assuredly boys basketball had come at some point earlier.

It seems to have taken awhile for the game to catch on in the other pieces of the vastness of Berrien, but it could seem that way as very little in the way of archives exists for the Nashville Herald in the 1920s. Some research has been done with the Valdosta Times, but nothing thorough as of this time.

The known history of each community that played a little hoops will be explored - eventually. Known winners of the County Tournament (1932-1994) are available through the 'Misc.' section.
