Complete scores for the Rebels and Rebelettes. Well, nearly complete. And I'll try to make them prettier at some point. Isn't this surprising? Something has actually been achieved in the Berrien section of the site... Please excuse the mess, as not everything has been properly put together yet. I have been asked this a couple of times through the state tournament history section: Where is Berrien? Berrien is in Berrien County. We're one of those few consolidated county high schools that doesn't put 'county' on the end of our name. Berrien County's seat of government is Nashville. Second largest Nashville in the whole wide world. Our other incorporated cities are: Alapaha, Enigma, and Ray City. Dig a little bit in your own community and you'll find a Berrien connection somewhere. We consolidated the county high schools in 1954. At that time, there were nine of them. Some only went through 9th grade, but since the high school is grades 9-12, I include them. The four city schools combined, as well as the community schools of Cottle, Gaskins, Jordan, New Lois, and New River. Poplar Springs would have been included, but they consolidated with Nashville over the span of 1950-51. Basketball has historically been our strong suit. There is a story from the 1970s that a group of Berrien supporters went to dine at a Waffle House in Macon during state tournament time. They requested grits, but unfortunately the restaurant did not have any. One of the fans asked if they could possibly have some tomorrow because they would be back again. Such confidence, as the only way they would be back was if the Rebs won the game that night. There was the biggest pot of grits in the world at the Waffle House in Macon the next evening. Every Berrien fan dipped some out on their plate. State championships came in 1970, 1972, 1975, 1979, 1983, and 1990 for the girls. The utterly fantastic 1971 Rebel team won the lone banner for the boys. There have been years where the wins weren't as many. But there has always been faith and the knowledge that sooner or later, everything will turn out good again. And it always does. New stuff! Photos! |
