Teams: 12
How determined: Region winners and runners-up
Champion: Beach
School Title: 1st
Final Record: 21-1
Coach: Russell Ellington
Notes:
Other Notes
- The headline of a March 4, 1967, Atlanta Journal article read: "Is Negro Domination Near?". It was in response to Beach and South Fulton playing for the Class AAA crown. In the fall of 1966, the Georgia High School Association allowed schools from the African-American Georgia Interscholastic Association to join. Beach and South Fulton had been two of the teams that made the jump (another AAA state contender, Turner, did as well). Russell Ellington correctly predicted that most GHSA schools would have to change their style or even their players to be able to contend with the now former GIA schools.
