The Tournament
Teams: 16
How determined: Region winner & runner-up.
Champion: Decatur
School Title: 4th
Final Record: 27-0
Coach: Bob Reinhart
Notes: The semifinal game against Waynesboro had quite a controversial moment. In the first quarter, Waynesboro was awarded a 1+1 free throw, a bonus shot. Decatur had not committed seven team fouls and coach Bob Reinhart complained to the officials. It was after the Hurricane missed the charity shot and his teammate rebounded and scored that Reinhart's pleas were heard. The referees confer and the Waynesboro basket was disallowed, which led their coach Doug Day to complain. The decision stands.
Doug Day filed a protest with the GHSA. Secretary Bill Fordham upheld the final score, but did comment that the Waynesboro basket should have counted and Decatur should (naturally) have gotten the ball after the score.
