Other notes: Bracket incomplete.

It is not 100% confirmed that East Baker was the fourth semifinalist. A Thomaston Free Press on March 1 listed five teams as girls' semifinalists, "Blackshear, Fitzgerald, Colbert, Newton and Boggs Academy."

The Blackshear Times said March 10 that it was the only school with both teams participating in the finals; Fitzgerald's - Monitor's - boys were the boys state runner-up in Class B. Fitzgerald sources made no mention of additionally having a girls team present.

With Monitor probably not a semifinalist from the list of five in the Free Press, attention shifts to the other schools. Boggs Academy and Southside of Colbert are confirmed semifinalists.

The Blackshear Times lists Lee Street's finals opponent as Colquitt, but it is not a stretch to assume that even if Lee Street, in providing information to the Blackshear Times, knew exactly where the opponent was from, the Times may not have been familiar with Colbert. Colquitt? Yes. But to know that Colquitt's high school was Bethel and not Southside? Probably not.

The True Citizen, newspaper in Waynesboro, had an update from Boggs Academy on the tournament, also in a March 10 edition. Boggs solely mentioned the girls were third in state without an opponent mentioned. The Danielsville Monitor, paper of record from Southside's location of Madison County, made no mention of the tournament at all.

There are no newspapers available in the University of Georgia's archive from Baker County/Newton after the mid-1940s.

Given that The Thomaston Free Press was accurate on every other school in the girls' semifinals, even with the mention of Fitzgerald, it seems to safe to assume the paper was correct that East Baker is right as well.
