The Tournament
Teams:
How determined:
Champion: Bethune
School Title:
Final Record:
Coach: Hank Bailey
Notes:
Other notes: Bracket incomplete.
The Charlton County Herald listed Bethune's semifinals opponent as "Ralph Bunche High School of Midville, Georgia." Bethune won the game by a 73-59 score.
Bethune did face a Ralph Bunche in the finals, the school located in Canton. There was a not a high school located in Midville, a tiny town in southern Burke County.
There is the possibility, albeit an unproven one, this school might have been Millville, a high school in the Laurens County town of Dudley. Millville was listed as a Class B school in 1959-60, on one of the few surviving attendance lists from the GIA. Millville's average daily attendance was 99 on that list, but another school, John Lewis, was Class C at a 91 ADA.
