Nashville High & Elementary

Location: 305 North Ann Street - Nashville
Dates: -1969
Named for:
Post-GIA: Used as Nashville Middle School and later as Berrien Elementary. Currently unoccupied.
Historical Average Daily Attendance:

  • 1959-60: Not on the district list, but definitely in existence.
  • 1966-68: 109
  • 1968-70: 94
Notes: The NH&E building on Ann Street opened in 1954 as a consolidation of the high schools of Nashville, Alapaha, and Ray City. Not long after, the county's African-American elementary schools also joined in. The previous Nashville school in all probability had "Nashville" in its title as the 1954-55 basketball girls wore two sets of jerseys. The older ones had NHS (or NHIS). To build NH&E in 1954, a Rosenwald school at the same location was torn down. Unusual in that Berrien County integrated in the middle of a school year.
