Post-GIA: still Monroe High.
Historical Average Daily Attendance:

  • 1959-60: 830

Notes: Monroe is one of 10 GIA schools that still operate as high schools and have been GHSA members since 1968. Their school website states that the building was built in 1959. I have seen a couple of references that indicate the school was originally Monroe Street. If correct, the school operated at another location for a few years. Their girls were a basketball powerhouse, winning Class A titles in 1951 and 1952 and a AA crown in 1958. Monroe shared its football stadium with Albany State through at least the 1960s.
