Profile: Paulding County

Year Minimum Foundation building program completed
1955.

All of Paulding's Black schools combined at a new school for Dallas' Matthews, an all-grades building.

Students had to begin the 1955-56 school year at their previous schools as the new Matthews was not quite finished, according to the Aug. 18, 1955 Dallas New Era. The new Matthews was dedicated Oct. 30. Irma Matthews, the school's namesake, was able to be in attendance.

Year of total integration
1969.

Paulding's complete desegregation was also a consolidation of its high schools. In addition to Matthews, the historically white high schools of Dallas and Hiram were combined to make Paulding County High.
