Butler-Baker built in Eatonton.

Butler-Baker was split upon total integration into a grades 3-6 elementary (Baker) and a grades 7-9 junior high (Butler). Putnam had considered splitting their high school into genders, but kept Putnam County High as the sole high school. PCHS' nickname did change from Blue Devils to War Eagles for the 1970-71 school year.

Around 1965, the high school portion of the school began going by Butler, with Baker referring to elementary grades. The earliest reference to it solely being Butler for the high school in the Eatonton Messenger appears to be in 1966.
